"Hindi. English. Telugu. Tamil" That is how it is in the world today, when every language is beginning to mix with each other and one single language can span across many countries and cultures. This situation will soon lead to a "global language", which the United Nations predicts will be Hindi by 2025! We already know that this mixed-up world has created a lot of problems for people due to increasing communication barriers and increasing isolation from each other. The UN's main concern, however, is the threat it poses to endangered languages like Chinese and Arabic (UNESCO). We also know that multi-lingual people have scoring higher than other peers in IQ tests. Multi-lingual societies such as Singapore and Switzerland are known to be the most progressive/developed, while countries such as China and Japan which do not recognize their native languages (Mandarin and Japanese) respectively are generally very conservative and old-fashioned. The story of Telugu is a bit different than the rest. While the other languages in India and Europe were gradually replaced by dominant languages, Telugu remained a popular language, even after it was engulfed by the might of Vijayanagara Empire and later the British Empire. It provided support to the culture of Tamil Nadu by helping to preserve their language. It was also the official language of Hyderabad until 1948, which is not many years after independence. The language was later declared by the Government of India as an 'official language' in Andhra Pradesh in June 6, 1999 under the National Policy on Languages (NPL). The current status of Telugu in Andro Pradesh is not very clear though it is an official language. Due to Telugu's dominance in commerce, it has caught up with Hindi and English across all spheres. There are estimates that Telugu will overtake English by 2013, while Hindi remains the most popular medium for linguistic communication in India. Telugu Language situation in India: Despite Hyderabad being an official part of Andhra Pradesh for decades now, there is no significant degree of Telugu influence in the city. The language is still widely spoken and used as a medium of communication and communication between various communities and groups. The language also has a sort of rivalry with Hindi due to its dominance across all spheres. There are reports that people from other parts would try to take advantage of the status of Hyderabad by monopolizing Telugu speakers and making them their own proxies. This has lead to many cases where Telugu speakers try to preserve the purity/purity of the language by demanding that all discussions/discussions about politics, history, etc. must be in Telugu.
